September Home Altar Set Up

I can’t believe September is almost here! The kids are back in school, and this year I want to be more intentional about bringing the beauty of our Catholic faith into our home. One way I plan to do that is by creating a special home altar each month—and I can’t wait to share the process with you, step by step!

First, I add a green altar cloth because we are in Ordinary Time. I love matching our little domestic church to the liturgical season of the Catholic Church. I place it one my double side tables. 

Then comes the fun part—adding all the beautiful details! I always place Christ at the center with an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a Standing crucifix, reminding us that He is the heart of our home and the focus of our prayer.

From there, I work outward, adding holy images, A Rosary, candles, Statue of Mary, our family Bible, and a few plants or flowers to bring beauty and life to the space. You can also include photos or names of family members and friends who need prayers, as well as loved ones who have passed away, so your family remembers to pray for them throughout the month.
