First, plan ahead! A week or two before the celebration, jot down a few ideas for Mary’s birthday. Decide whether you would like to keep it simple with just your family or invite friends to join you. A Mary’s Birthday Party Planner can help you organize all the little details so nothing is forgotten. Sometimes planning is almost as much fun as the party itself—especially when you invite your children to help! My girls loved being part of the planning and making the celebration extra special.
Decorations are a fun and easy way to make any party feel extra special! You would be surprised by how much a pretty tablecloth and a vase of fresh flowers can transform your space. We used flowers from our own garden, which made the celebration feel even more meaningful and beautiful.
We chose a beautiful color palette of white, blue, and gold for Mary’s birthday celebration. White represents her purity, blue is traditionally associated with the Blessed Mother, and gold reminds us that she is the Queen of Heaven.
I found the perfect blue-and-white cotton tablecloth—and I love that I can use it again for Sunday brunches and other special occasions! We added gold chargers for under the plates We added antique gold candlesticks and sweet little gold flower vases filled with fresh flowers. It’s amazing how a lovely tablecloth, a few flowers, and simple decorative touches can completely transform a table.
The girls had so much fun helping me put everything together, and the finished table looked beautiful, elegant, and perfectly fitting for such a special feast day!
To continue our blue, white, and gold birthday theme, Bella helped me make blueberry cupcakes using white cake batter, blueberry frosting, and fresh blueberries on top. They were so simple to make, but the girls thought they looked incredibly fancy—and they made the perfect treat for Mary’s special day!
For the table centerpiece, I wanted something that looked elegant but was still easy to put together. I started with our blue-and-white tablecloth and then layered in fresh flowers and greenery from the garden to add color, texture, and dimension.
Since it was Mary’s birthday, I placed this beautiful Marian statue at the center of the table. It matched our blue-and-white theme perfectly—and she is even more beautiful in person! Or if you want another idea I placed this cute Mother Mary toy on the top and it looks so cute too! Either one works.
I also used a white serving plate that I originally purchased for my children’s Baptism celebrations. It was perfect for displaying Mary’s cupcakes or a birthday cake. The plate features Psalm 118:24: “This is the day the Lord has made.” It’s such a lovely piece for birthdays, feast days, Baptisms, First Communions, and so many other celebrations. I know our family will enjoy using it for years to come!
Here is a closer look at the cake plate—I love how timeless and elegant it is! It will add such a beautiful touch to many of our liturgical celebrations for years to come.
For the dress code, I thought it would be fun to ask everyone to wear white in honor of Mary’s purity. I wore this linen dress with delicate blue flowers, and it fit our Marian theme perfectly! It has quickly become one of my favorite dresses because it is both modest and elegant. I often wear it to Sunday Mass, but it was especially lovely for Mary’s birthday celebration. I got a sweet picture of me and the girls ready for the party next to our “little English cottage flower patch”. LOL we had no idea they would grow to tall so we had to get a picture of it!

Of course, no celebration for Mary would be complete without bringing our Blessed Mother flowers! You could place them beside her statue on your home altar or bring them to your Mary garden. Bella and Mary loved choosing flowers for our heavenly Mother—it was such a sweet and simple way to celebrate her birthday and show their love for her.
Your celebration does not need to be elaborate to be meaningful. Place a statue or image of Mary on the table, bring her a few flowers, enjoy a special treat, and pray a Hail Mary together as a family. The heart of this celebration is helping our children grow in love for the Blessed Mother—and, through her, grow closer to Jesus.
To make it really easy here is what you can do:
- Decorate the table and place flowers near Mary.
- Read a short story about the Blessed Mother.
- Pray a Hail Mary or a decade of the Rosary.
- Sing “Happy Birthday.”
- Enjoy cupcakes and complete a Marian activity.
- Finish by asking Mary to help your family grow closer to Jesus.
These are just a few of the joyful ways our family celebrates the Blessed Mother’s birthday! More than any beautiful decorations, flowers, or treats, Mary desires that we have pure hearts devoted to her Son, Jesus. Still, what a joyful opportunity to honor the most beautiful woman God created and thank her for being our loving Mother in Heaven!
