Catholic October Ideas

The leaves are beginning to change here in Virginia, and our family is so excited for the cooler weather and the beauty of a new season! October is filled with wonderful opportunities to grow in our Catholic faith, from celebrating special feast days and learning about the saints to refreshing our home altar and praying the Rosary together since it is the month of the Holy Rosary in the Catholic faith.

I’m sharing some simple and meaningful ideas to help your family live the faith throughout this beautiful month. Remember, these activities are meant to be joyful—not overwhelming! Choose the ideas that work for your family, keep things simple, and have fun making special memories together.

October Home Altar

A home altar is a beautiful way to bring the Catholic faith into your everyday family life. Begin by choosing a peaceful place where your family can gather to pray.

I like to place an image of Jesus or a crucifix in the center, then add a statue of Mary, candles, flowers, or greenery around it. I also coordinate the altar cloth (10% off code is acatholicmom10 ) with the liturgical season. Since we are still in Ordinary Time this month, I use a green cloth.

I also just added the Holy Card Box (10% off with code ACATHOLICMOM10) on the left and love it!  It will be perfect to have easy access to all my feast day Holy Cards!

To celebrate October’s feast days, I add images of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John Paul II, and, of course, our Blessed Mother. I do have printables  pictures in my October digital Magazine that are perfect for your home altar that is what I am using. These simple touches help remind our family of the saints’ holy examples and keep our Catholic faith at the heart of our home

October Books

One of the best ways to help children grow in their faith is by filling your home with beautiful Catholic books. We especially love reading about a saint on their feast day—it’s a simple and fun way to bring their story to life!

Here are a few Catholic books our family owns and loves: Thérèse: The Little Flower of Lisieux, Our Lady of Fatima Graphic Novel, Saint Francis of Assisi, One Holy Marriage, The Martins(Saint Therese’s family), and A Boy Who Became Pope (JP2’s story).  And so many more of my families favorite Catholic Books.

Cozy decorating

I love decorating for fall, and my family gets excited when the house changes with the seasons. Over the years I have collected different warm oranges, creams, antique golds, tans, and browns items to make everything feel a little cozier. Over the years, I’ve collected orange pumpkins that I look forward to bringing out each autumn. These are some ideas I have saved for my wish list if you are looking for ideas this fall.

I swap our everyday blankets for soft orange and cream ones, fill the mantel with gold candles and pumpkins, and add an orange runner to the table with a candle and a few fall leaves. They’re simple changes, but they make our home feel so warm and welcoming.

I decorate the front door, too, with mums and real pumpkins. This year I found mums at a local farm and Costco—and the Costco ones are huge! It always makes me smile to see how much my family enjoys these little seasonal touches.

A Couple more things

FALL FASHION – Looking to add a few fresh pieces to your wardrobe this fall? Here are some of my favorites!  I also like to add a dress for church each new season here are my fall dresses.

All Saint’s Day Prep – Throughout October, I love reading my kids short stories about the saints all month as we get ready for All Saints’ Day. Even a one-page story can help them get to know a saint and see how that person loved God. Here are a few books we have and love!

I also let my kids choose their saint costumes in October, so we have plenty of time to get ready for All Saints’ Day. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few fun ideas we have done in the past.

I’m a Catholic wife, mama to five beautiful children, homemaker, home chef, and the heart behind A Catholic Mom’s Life. In this little corner of the internet, I love sharing the beauty of Catholic motherhood, faith-filled family traditions, cozy homemaking inspiration, heartfelt prayers, and all the little things that help make a house feel more like a holy home.

My greatest joy is my vocation as a wife and mother, and through my YouTube videos, blog posts, and favorite finds, my hope is to encourage women to fall deeply in love with Christ and discover the peace, joy, and beauty that can be found in living the Catholic faith every day.
