How to Throw a Catholic Baby Shower

Hello, friends! Today I wanted to share some tips for throwing a baby blessing party. A baby blessing party is a like a baby shower, but instead of showering the mother to be with gifts, you shower her with Prayers. This is a great way to celebrate a pregnancy for someone that has more than one child and may already have everything she needs. You could also do add these ideas to traditional baby shower for a new mother who would appreciate the prayers.

I hosted a baby blessing party for my sister-in-law when she pregnant with her third child, and it was so much fun! A baby blessing can be as simple as a playdate where everyone prays over the expecting mother or as elaborate as a party with favors and extra activities. If you are looking to add some extra elements to your party, try blessing beads or a prayer candle.  Here is a whole free package from THE LITTLE ROSE SHOP with step by step guide on how to do a prayer blessing which includes prayers, Candle sleeves, step by step guide of what to do it is awesome!  Click HERE for the free guide!

“Blessing beads” are beads you use to create a bracelet for the recipient that reminds her of all the prayers you have offered for her. Each friend brings a bead (or you can purchase a few and give them out) that represents a prayer for the expecting mom. You can also opt to have these beads blessed.  Using an elastic string, each friend would add a bead after praying for the recipient. This can even be something your friend wears into labor and delivery, which reminds her that she is loved and her friends are praying for her!

Another idea is passing out prayer candles. These make beautiful party favors and remind everyone to pray for the expecting mom during birth. You can purchase white candles in a clear votive to give to everyone who attends your baby blessing party. To add some extra flair, you can add a colorful wrap to it or a tag with a prayer attached.

The idea is that each person takes the candle home, and when your friend begins labor or a planned c-section, you all light the candle and cover her in prayer! I like to keep mine somewhere central where I will pass by it frequently, such as my kitchen counter. Every time you walk by and see it burning, you’ll remember to pray for your friend.

Of course, a baby blessing party can be for any Christian denomination. It’s a wonderful way to cover your friend in prayer and make her feel loved! If you’ve had a baby blessing party or have any ideas to add, drop a comment below! As always, God bless!

In Christ,
