Hello, friends! Today I wanted to share some tips for throwing a baby blessing party. A baby blessing party is a like a baby shower, but instead of showering the mother to be with gifts, you shower her with Prayers. This is a great way to celebrate a pregnancy for someone that has more than one child and may already have everything she needs. You could also do add these ideas to traditional baby shower for a new mother who would appreciate the prayers.
I hosted a baby blessing party for my sister-in-law when she pregnant with her third child, and it was so much fun! A baby blessing can be as simple as a playdate where everyone prays with the expecting mother or as elaborate as a party with favors and extra activities. If you are looking to add some extra elements to your party, try blessing beads or a prayer candle.
“Blessing beads” are beads you use to create a bracelet for the recipient that reminds her of all the prayers you have offered for her. Using an elastic string, each friend would add a bead after praying for the recipient. This can even be something your friend wears into labor and delivery, which reminds her that she is loved and her friends and family are praying for her! Also you could have every one make their own so that they can wear the bracelet during her labor and remember to pray for her and baby every time you look at it! I like this beautiful set.
Another idea is passing out prayer candles. These make beautiful party favors and remind everyone to pray for the expecting mom during birth. You could even get them blessed! Once the mom to be is in labor text everyone and have them light there candle so that every time they see that candle they will remember to prayer until she gives birth! Other Ideas for the Shower/Blessing
Choose a Patron Saint for the baby for delivery – invite guests to suggest patron saints and explain why they chose them. Parents may discover a saint they had never considered, and it sparks wonderful conversations about faith and holiness.
Best Advice I Ever Got – Go around the room and share the best piece of advice you received as a new mom. Whether it was a practical parenting tip, words of encouragement, or a lesson learned along the way, your wisdom can be a meaningful gift to the mom-to-be.
This is a wonderful opportunity to offer support, share experiences, and remind her that she is surrounded by a community of love and prayers as she begins her journey into motherhood.
Create a Baby Blessing Book – Provide blank pages where each guest contributes a favorite Catholic prayer, Scripture verse, or saint quote. Bind the pages together into a unique prayer book for the child.
Name The Catholic Item – Display Catholic items such as a Rosary, Miraculous Medal, holy water bottle, scapular, prayer card, crucifix, or saint statue. Guests identify the items and share what they know about them. This activity is especially fun if not everyone attending is Catholic.
Meal Train for Mom To Be – Make sure to collect emails to the women who want to be a part of the ‘Meal Train‘ to bring the new mother a dinner. This is alway helpful to the new moms, however you might want to check with the mom to be if she is interested in receiving a meal train. Some moms love it other are not a fan.
Catholic Party Shower Party Station
Set up a station where guests can assemble small favors such as saint medals, Rosary bracelets, prayer cards, candle or tiny bottles of holy water to take home as a reminder to continue praying for the baby.
