Enthronement to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Enthronement to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a beautiful Catholic devotion where a family places an image or statue of the Sacred Heart in a special place in the home to publicly honor Jesus as the King, Friend, and Head of the household. Families usually gather together to pray, read Scripture, bless the image, and consecrate their home and hearts to Jesus. This can be done at any time of the year, but many families choose the Feast of the Sacred Heart, First Fridays, or another meaningful family celebration day. The enthronement is not just a one-time ceremony, but a commitment to live with Christ at the center of family life through prayer, love, forgiveness, and faithfulness each day.  And encouraged to be done once a year.  (Picture of the Sacred Heart pictured below link but much smaller)

Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus,
today we welcome You into our home and place our family under Your loving care. Reign in our hearts as our King, guide us as our Shepherd, and remain with us always as our closest Friend. Fill this home with peace, joy, charity, and faithfulness. Help us to love one another with patience and kindness, and may every room in this house honor and glorify You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in You and consecrate our family completely to Your Most Sacred Heart. Amen.

One beautiful way to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus is by displaying an image or statue of the Sacred Heart in your home. This serves as a daily reminder of Christ’s deep love and mercy for your family and helps keep Jesus at the center of your home life. Many families place the image in a main living area or create a small prayer corner around it with candles, flowers, or a Bible.

Praying the Litany of the Sacred Heart or a daily consecration prayer is another simple yet powerful way to grow closer to Jesus. These prayers help us meditate on His compassion, mercy, patience, and love while offering our hearts and daily struggles back to Him.

Hosting a Sacred Heart Dinner Party is such a beautiful way to encourage family and friends to grow closer to Jesus and learn more about this meaningful devotion. You can make it a large gathering with loved ones or keep it simple and intimate with just your household. Sharing a meal, praying together, and creating a welcoming atmosphere is a wonderful way to honor and celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Below are some fun and inspiring decorating ideas for your dinner table to help make the evening feel extra special.

There isn’t really a traditional dinner for the Sacred Heart of Jesus but below I have some ideas if you needed some for your party.  Some easy meal ideas:

You could even ask guests to bring a dish potluck-style to make the evening feel more communal.

Families can also celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with special traditions such as baking a heart-shaped cake, sharing a family meal, decorating with red flowers or candles, or spending extra time in prayer together. Making joyful memories centered around Christ helps children and families grow in love for the faith.

Below is a how to make the Sacred Heart Cake!  Everyone will love it!

Another meaningful devotion is practicing the First Fridays devotion. Catholics honor the Sacred Heart by attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion on the first Friday of nine consecutive months in reparation for sins and in thanksgiving for Jesus’ love. This devotion helps deepen trust in Christ and encourages regular participation in the sacraments.  Below are the promises to those who do this devotion!

Another way to honor the Sacred Heart is through acts of mercy and charity. Jesus calls us to love others as He loves us, so serving those in need, forgiving others, showing kindness, and caring for the lonely are all ways we reflect His Sacred Heart in everyday life.

Spending time in Eucharistic Adoration is also a beautiful devotion connected to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sitting quietly with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament allows us to rest in His presence, speak to Him heart to heart, and receive His peace and healing love.

In Christ,

  1. Thank you Heather. I have followed you for some time. Your content is beautiful and practical. I share your ideas with my daughters. You are an inspiration. I always learn something from your posts. I am a cradle Catholic but was not well catechized in the 70’s. It was in 2019 and EWTN that started my study 📚 into my faith. Keep up the good work.
